We joined forces Wednesday, April 28 with the Ford Driving Dreams program and read books to 3rd grade students at the Ceasar Chavez Learning Center, a DISD school, not far from our dealership. Ford is bringing 10,000 free books to elementary schools across the North Texas area before the end of the school year in June. Ford's Joe Avila (photo left) helped shepard the initiative to improve reading and literacy by reaching children, especially in the Hispanic community, at a much younger age.
Ford's gift of a free book may well be the first book that a child ever brings home to share with his or her family, said Avila to a group of community sponsors, teachers and DISD administrators who turned out for the kick off event. After the introductions, visitors were invited to sit with the students and read the new books or to have the kids read back to them. It was really a wonderful experience. Each child took home a new book of their choice of fiction or poetry along with a book bag with a Ford logo.
