The spirit of the holidays extends beyond food, gifts, and merrymaking. It's also about taking inventory of your gratitude, expressing goodwill toward others, and making the world a generally happier place. To accomplish these objectives, numerous organizations in and around Dallas put on holiday events devoted to giving back to the community in one way or another. If you're interested in helping a good cause, consider any of the following holiday charity events that you can volunteer in Dallas, Texas.
Love for Kids Inc. is a Dallas-based nonprofit that assists low-income families with children. Specifically, the organization provides these families with activity resources, materials, and mentoring programs. Every year, it works with Dallas Children's Charities on the Annual Toy Sort, in which volunteers sort, bag, and box the thousands of holiday toys donated to agencies serving needy children.
Another annual event organized by Love for Kids Inc. is the Children's Holiday Event, in which groups of children ages 6–12 get to take place in a holiday extravaganza on a ranch. There are games, prizes, handouts, hay rides, a petting zoo, character mascots, horses for the children to ride, and food. Elsewhere are stations set up by nonprofit agencies and sponsors where the children can learn about important topics like health, drug prevention, and helmet safety. At the end of the day, everyone receives a holiday gift as well.
Love for Kids Inc. welcomes both individuals and organizations to take part in the event to bring Christmas to underprivileged families. Community Partners of Dallas is a nonprofit dedicated to protecting and inspiring abused and neglected children in the Dallas area. One of the organization's regular events is its Winter Coat Drive. Coats are essential garments for ensuring the health and comfort of young people, and owning a quality coat can be a great source of pride for children in need. To that end, Community Partners of Dallas collects donations of new coats for children aged newborn to17.
Another event you can help with is the Toy Drive. For many children who come from abuse, events like this one are often the only means by which they experience Christmas. Every toy they receive allows them to feel loved, cherished, and valuable.
You can contribute to either of these causes by donating a new coat, donating toys, and/or creating a customized fundraising page on your website or social media channels. Grace Bridge's mission is to provide communities with essentials such as food, clothing, and communion. It operates a food bank, coordinates community development and disaster relief, and donates necessities to families in need. Among Grace Bridge's annual events is Wrapped in Love, in which teams of volunteers pass out gifts and other items to local families in need. For those who are struggling financially, Wrapped in Love allows them to celebrate the holiday fully. By providing their children with gifts, parents can preserve their dignity while helping to establish lasting positive memories.
Volunteering with Grace Bridge is simple. Visit the volunteer page on the organization's website and provide your information in the field titled "Your Volunteer Info." After you submit your details, you'll receive an email with information concerning volunteer opportunities. The Trains at NorthPark is an annual exhibit in Dallas that runs during the holiday season. The model trains traverse approximately 1,600 feet of tracks and 4,000 square feet of themed replica environments. Tickets for admission are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and the sales go toward the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas — a nonprofit whose goal is to provide accommodations for families with sick/injured children undergoing treatment at a Dallas medical facility.
To operate, the Trains at NorthPark need volunteers to perform various duties, including collecting tickets, welcoming guests, and overseeing the exhibit. Given that around 60,000 visitors visit the trains every year, the organization requires many volunteers to ensure everything runs smoothly.
For 2022–23, the Trains at NorthPark exhibit operates from Nov. 12 to Jan. 6, and the organization will begin accepting volunteers on Sept. 15. At that point, you'll be able to create an account on the Trains at NorthPark website and register as a Trains Volunteer.
